Family Census Page

A division of the U.S. Department of Commerce, the US Census Bureau is responsible for collecting and providing relevant data about the people and economy of the United States. The first national census in the United States was conducted in 1790, and counted 3.9 million inhabitants. With the growth of the country, the needs for different kinds of information about the people changed. In 1850, the census included inquiries on social issues, such as taxation, churches, pauperism, and crime. As new states and territories were added to the Union, the censuses also spread geographically.

I have gathered together a multitude of images of the United States Federal Censuses for my ancestors. Below you will find links to images of the actual censuses for each household under the names of my ancestors for the different years. Just click on the thumbnails. The list below is in alphabetical order. It is interesting to note that on several of the images you will see extended families where brothers, sisters and parents lived close to one another.

It is also important to state that 70 years time has to pass before a federal census is released to the public for viewing. The last census to be released was for the year 1930. The next to be released will be 1940 in the year 2010.

The names listed below would be a grandparent of mine of the different generations. Toward the top of the page is my fathers side of the family, the Lewises. The second half of the page is my mothers side of the family, the Criswell's. I included some censuses where the wife became the head of household after the husbands passed away so that the migration of the family can continue to be traced.
