Note: Nicolaus was a French Huguenot who fled to Germany to escape religious persecution. American sources, such as "Monocacy and Catoctin," Vol. 2, Pg. 9, say the family name means a very old man, which this author has c onfirmed with several native French speakers. The above mentioned book a lso mentions that the Vielliard family fled from France to the area of K aiserslautern in the Pfalz, and "next generation" came to Maryland under the leadership of ?? Maria Eilsabeth Vielliard, ?? who is the daughter- in-law of this couple.
Nicolaus married Katherine GROSJEAN. (Katherine GROSJEAN was born in 1637.)
