In the year 1676, the time of that bloody and destructive was with the Indians under King Philip, he was in the battle called "Pierces Fight" w hich took place in Rehoboth near Mount Hope, the residense of that celeb rated Sachem. Captain Michael Pirce commanded the brave band consisting of 63 English and Cape Cod Indians. They were decoyed by the wily foe in to an ambush, surrounded by 500 indians and after fighting heroically w ere nearly all slain in this battle save only 8 English and 10 Indian al lies, who escaped. John Lewis was slain in this battle which took place on the sabbath day, March 26, 1670 in his 39th year.
